Text to copy

What you typed

The text to type is in the paragraph right before this field. Press Esc to leave the typing field, or Tab for a new text.

There is no time limit. Finish the sentences you picked to see WPM and accuracy. At the end of a line, press Space or Enter to move on. Combo counts keys pressed correctly in a row. What you type and your results stay on this device. Press Esc to leave the typing field.

Your results

Stored on this device only.

No results yet. Finish one test and it shows up here. From the next one on, each result is compared with your last.

Keys you miss most

Missed keys will collect here.

The line to copy and the line you typed

The top line is the text to copy and the line under it is what you have typed so far. A wrong character turns red in the top line straight away. Finish the sentence, press Space or Enter, and the next one moves up.

Where the text comes from

The everyday sentences were written for this site. The proverbs are old sayings with no known author, and each pangram uses every letter of the alphabet at least once. Nothing comes from books, articles or song lyrics.

How the numbers are calculated

Every number on this page is counted the way described here. Select a card to read more.

WPM

Correct characters ÷ 5 ÷ seconds × 60.

One "word" is any five characters, spaces included. This is net WPM: only characters that are correct in the final text count.

Accuracy

Correct key presses ÷ all key presses.

A key is judged at the moment you press it, so a mistake you go back and fix still counts against accuracy.

Combo

The number of keys you pressed correctly in a row.

A wrong key starts it again from 0. Backspace neither adds to it nor breaks it, and keys typed while the wrong-layout or Caps Lock notice is showing do not break it. The result shows the longest run of that test. It has no effect on WPM or accuracy.

Raw speedEvery key press ÷ 5 ÷ seconds × 60, including the ones you got wrong or erased.

Backspace itself is not counted. It is shown in small print under the accuracy.

Missed and slow keysA miss is recorded on the key you should have pressed.

Typing "r" where "e" was expected counts against "e". A slow key is one whose average gap from the previous key is longer than your overall average. Pauses longer than 3 seconds and keys typed fewer than three times are left out.

Wrong layout or Caps LockKey presses made while the "switch your keyboard" or Caps Lock notice is showing are not counted.

They are left out of accuracy and missed keys, even when the notice stays up for several words.

TimeThe clock starts on your first key and pauses when the tab is hidden.

The time in the result is rounded to 0.1 s first, and WPM is calculated from that rounded time, so the formula on screen gives the same number if you redo it by hand.

Touch keyboardsOn a phone we cannot see individual key presses, so we compare the text you have typed so far each time it changes.

If you erase a character and type the same one again, it is counted once. Slow keys are not timed. Keyboard apps differ, so results can look different from one app to another.

Other sitesTyping sites do not all count the same way.

Here a character you leave wrong is left out of WPM and stays in accuracy, so a site that drops the whole word around a mistake will show a lower number. We do not claim our numbers match anyone else's.
